  • Rethink Mental Illness is a charity that believes a better life is possible for the millions of people affected by mental Illness. For 40 years we have brought people together to support each other through our services, groups and campaign.
  • In this in-house role as an IMHA you will be working with people who have learning disabilities or are detained under the Mental Health Act.
  • You will Checking the validity of referrals, meeting patients in hospital wards, attending review meetings. Additionally, you will verify that the client has been appropriately assessed as lacking capacity in relation to the issue in hand, if relevant.
  • You will have experience or an awareness of advocacy roles and will be able to manage a busy case load, and you must also be willing to complete the IMHA qualification if you have not already done so.
  • You will have the ability to make clear, factually accurate case notes and you must be able to recognise and respond appropriately to risk and you must have the desire to work with people affected by mental illness and make a difference to their quality of life. An understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act will also be useful.
