  • About the role: This in-house post is in the Domestic Legislation Team, which advises the Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments, advises committees on private Bills and examines primary and secondary legislation for certification under the English Votes for English Laws provisions of the Standing Orders of the House of Commons, as well as providing other advice relating to legislation as necessary.
  • Looking For: Among your myriad attributes, we are looking to secure your substantial post-qualification experience of practice as a barrister or solicitor or equivalent.; your excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise legal advice on highly complex issues in a timely, accurate, complete, coherent and accessible fashion; your experience of advising and influencing people in senior positions and gaining and keeping their confidence.
  • Opportunities: The opportunities afforded to you will include, but not be limited to, contributing, through detailed review and analysis of legislation, to provision of legal services to the Joint and Select Committees on Statutory Instruments, the RRC and the Committees responsible for the scrutiny of Private Bills.
  • And more: In conjunction with Counsel for Domestic Legislation and the other Deputy Counsel for Domestic Legislation, to provide regular legal services and advice to the JCSI and SCSI.
