Why are we doing this?
Word of mouth and recommendations play an important part in the recruitment business and referral schemes are used widely. If you refer some to a recruitment business and they are then placed, you might get £500, a Fortnum & Mason hamper, or some vouchers to spend at House of Fraser. When we launched Route1, we thought long and hard about this approach and decided that it simply works to attract the wrong kind of candidate.
So we introduced a referral scheme with a difference – initially introducing charitable donations for referrals, and then making charitable donations with every hire we made.

Our offer to candidates
From today, our candidates will receive a sign-on bonus when they start their new role. The bonus is paid after probationary periods are completed. It’s not a new concept; there are many of our competitors who give a fixed amount to the candidate when they start, but we think we can do more. A lot more. What about a significant sign on bonus? What about 5% of the salary you have worked so hard to achieve? With average NQ salaries in London above £70,000, that would be a bonus of £3,500. Or if they were at a top US firm, a bonus of over £7,000.
