Welcome to Route1’s market report for the first quarter of 2019. Our custom-built platform continues to grow and we boast over 10,000 candidates, 650 employers, and an average of 120 new roles each week. This increasing data set allows Route1 to measure and analyse both vacancies and employer requirements nationwide.
Route1 analytics show that in the first quarter of 2019, in-house roles represented over one third of total UK legal jobs nationwide. This is an increase of 36% on Q4 2018, which we might be able to attribute to in-house procurement budgets being set later in the calendar year than for law firms, and resulting recruitment campaigns being launched earlier in the first quarter of the year by in-house employers.
Commercial, IP and IT remained the most in demand practice area in Q1 2019, with Private Client and Real Estate from Q4 2018 being displaced by Dispute Resolution and Regulatory for the start of the year. We expect to see strong demand for Regulatory roles through Q2 2019 and beyond due to continued Brexit uncertainty through the summer.
Regional demand showed a repeated geographic profile as for the previous quarter, with London and the South East showing the strongest demand. Key cities have seen an increase in available roles as many national firms continue to increase their regional reach.
