So you have impressed with your CV, aced the interview, and now have an offer… well done you! But what do you do now? Can you ask for more money? How do you ask those difficult questions?
In the final part of our series for NQ lawyers, Route1 will guide you the through the offer process.
At NQ level, it is important to note that there tends to be very little room for salary negotiation. Most firms have set levels for NQ salaries so talk to our Engagement Team at Route1, who have several years’ experience of salary levels across a range of locations and specialties; we will always be honest about what that will look like. While there may be little scope for negotiation at this level, you could request some extra time off before starting your new role – to find out about other considerations to make during the salary negotiation window, read our article on managing the process in our Route1 Insights page.
Accepting the offer
After receiving the paperwork, you will generally have about a week to accept an offer. This can be difficult when you have multiple processes ongoing, but a good recruiter will always try their best to get them to come to a head at the same time. When we cannot do this, it can sometimes be a case of having to make a decision before you’re completely ready, unfortunately. It is always good practice to be open and honest with your recruiter throughout the process about your feelings towards each firm you’re interviewing with. We can then help to speed up or slow down a process to help you make an informed decision.
Once you have been offered the job, if you want it and everything seems in order, then there is no reason to delay. If you have the luxury of more than one offer at a time, then talk through your options with our Engagement Team – Route1 can help you look at the relative merits of each.
You have accepted your dream job! Congratulations! However… your journey is not over quite yet. You will need to return the paperwork, resign, agree on a start date, and then start the firm’s onboarding process.
