Legal Geek is a law tech conference sponsored by a number of leading players in the legal technology industry and law, including Thomson Reuters, The Law Society and Freshfields. We have happy memories of Legal Geek and have attended each year since its inception, winning their first ever Marketplace of the Year award in 2016.
Legal Geek covers the entire range of legal technology innovation encompassing contract analysis and creation, due diligence tools, e-discovery, marketplace solutions, content delivery, data privacy/cyber security and staffing solutions. Oh… and yes, some Blockchain!
What was striking about this year’s conference was not only its size – double that of last year – but also the international element, with members of Legal Geeks’ international award-winning community attending. For example, we spent some time with a Russian startup called Pravoved.ru that have developed a neat neuro-linguistic programming tool to assist in the legal service delivery sector.
It was also interesting to begin to hear some pushback against the law tech hype, following £16 million of investment in the sector this year alone. One speaker pointed out, archly, that 90% of legal tech pilots fail and advised not to invest in legal tech startups… much to the amusement of the audience of technologists and potential adopters!
Why were we there?
Well, Route1 is the only true technology platform solution in legal recruitment. We sit at the intersection of legal practice, technology and talent management. What sets us apart from our competitors is a relentless desire to leverage technology for the benefit of our candidates and employer clients.
What does this mean in practice?
It means building content APIs, to enable us to automatically present relevant content to place alongside the hundreds of jobs that we match to our candidates every day. It involves improving the coding algorithms that we use to match candidates with jobs. And it involves building effective interfaces with our employer clients talent CRM, or ATS platforms, to ensure that we can provide seamless service to them and that they remain GDPR compliant at all times. All to ensure we can use multiple-delivery channels – including mobile – to deliver the best customer experience to our users.
We spotted this PostIt note on the Thomson Reuters stand and thought it would make a great marketing slogan for Route1!
